So Kinsey got sick at school on Halloween (Thursday) but it seemed to be fine afterwards. We did the whole trick or treating, ate dinner, had fun, the BAM she got sick again! This time it stuck around and she couldn't even keep ice down :( I felt so bad for her but just assumed it was a 24 hour bug and she would feel better soon. I limited her fluid intake and only let her eat bland foods but that still was not helping. Friday she would not eat anything but didn't seem sick, then Friday night she was sick AGAIN! I was so confused and had no idea what the heck was going on. So all day Saturday I made her take it easy, stay on the couch, and only have fluids with crackers. Still she was unable to keep anything down! All night Saturday she was sick but I thought for sure she would be better Sunday right?! WRONG! She was worse! So I decided to take her to IHC insta care but when we got there they had a 110min wait and I was not about to sit there that long with a sick kiddo. Then Brandon did some research and discovered that Wee Care is open 24/7 so we made an apt and went there. The MA didn't even take a full set of vitals on her, and she didn't check her temperature accurately but I figured the dr would be thorough. I was WRONG again! The dr came in pushed on her belly a little and said, "well she isn't complaining of any pain, so just wait it out." then left.. I was furious!!! Back home we went with no answers and a very sick kiddo. Finally Kinsey was able to get some rest and fell asleep on the couch and I decided to keep her there while we ate and as I was getting ready to sit down I noticed she was throwing up in her sleep and not even waking up (sorry if that TMI) I FREAKED out, put her in the bath and rushed her to the ER. The whole way there I was bawling and reminding myself to drive safe! We got there and Kinsey couldn't even keep her head up or eyes open. So in I walked, carrying my child and bawling. Im sure I was quite the sight ;) They took a full set of vitals and said her heart rate was way high and she had a fever! Signs of dehydration! They admitted her immediately and I finally started to calm down because I knew she was going to be taken care of. It didn't take long for the dr to come in and discuss his treatment plan with me and I really appreciated his efforts before shoving meds into my child. He wanted to see how she reacted to ice, and of course it came back up, so then he gave her a large dose of Zofran sublingually and the nurse came in with several different juices and crackers for her to eat. The team at McKay truly was AMAZING!! I couldn't have asked for better.. The nurse sat in the room and talked to Kinsey and encouraging her to drink her juice. Half hour passed and she was able to keep everything down so the dr came in a said he wanted us to stay for another half hour and for her hear rate to go down a little bit more and for her to drink all the juice she had left. About 10 minutes before we could leave Kinsey perked right back up! She kicked me out of the bed with her, and was being her normal wild self :) She then fell asleep on the way home and slept through the entire night and when she woke up in the morning we gave her some more Zofran and she was able to eat! Finally by Tuesday she was starting to feel better but we gave her Zofran before meals just incase. Wednesday she was BETTER!! That dang stomach bug lasted WAY TOO LONG! Her dr believes it was the rotavirus and because she was immunized for it, it wasn't as severe.. I would HATE to see what that virus would do to a child not immunized!
